Charity shops provide an important source of income for us and many volunteers are based within the two we have in Worthing. They assist the shop co-ordinator to sort and price donated items, serve customers, organise and display stock.
Other fundraising provides the chance to help but not have to make a regular commitment. Our fundraising volunteers run stalls at our fetes, provide goods for stalls (prizes, cakes, plants, craftwork, books etc), attend supermarket collections, or promote events.
The Community area of our work requires the support of volunteers who help us in our family chat & play service Super Scopers and our 18+ social club with various activities.
Both of our Day Centres welcome the support of volunteers. Volunteers support instructors in sessions and are of particular value in supporting community activities, swimming, shopping, bowling and trips out.
Worthing & District Scope is a registered charity and as such our Board of Trustees are all volunteers. They bring to the table their skills, both professional or from personal experience to provide direction to the charity ensuring our practise is legal, ethical and representative of what local disabled people need and want.
We are committed to supporting our volunteers to making their time with us a valuable experience. As a Worthing Scope volunteer you will be offered an induction, a named member of staff to liaise with and regular support. You will also have opportunities to meet with the other volunteers and take part in relevant training.
All volunteers who have direct contact with service users are required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, in keeping with current legislation
